Imam Dr. Khalid Nasr
After memorizing the Quran, I developed an interest in learning the different ways of reciting Quran (Qiraaat). Sheikh Ibrahim recommended that I should continue my studying at the hands of Sheikh Ali Mohammad Sayyed Aker may Allah give him health. Under Sheikh Ali, I recited from the beginning of the the Quran until the end of Surat Hud according to the narration of Warsh from Nafi’. Sheikh Ali certified me in that section.
In 1990, I joined the Qiraat institute a part of Al-Azhar alshareef [the most famous religious organization in Muslim world] and there I studied the ten authentic narrations of the Quran, Quranic Sciences and Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) according to the mazhab of the great imam Abo Hanifah Al-No’man. In addition, I sought to learn the seven major narrations of the Quran from one of the biggest scholars of Qiraaat in south Egypt at that time, Sheikh Ahmad No’man Albakri Al-Sharif may Allah bless his soul. At the time, Sheikh Ahmad was very busy because of his many students, he could not add me as a student. However, when he saw my persistence and determination to learn the Qiraat he agreed to give me twenty minutes of his time a day, those twenty minutes grew to two hours a day with time. I started by reciting the entire Quran to him from memory according to the narration of Hafs from Assim. He was, may Allah bless his soul, blind so I used to recite Quran to him for one hour and read to him for the second hour. I usually read to him Tafisr Al-Qurtubi, the Fiqh of Imam Malik and various books on Quranic sciences. After finishing my studies with Sheikh Ahmad No’man and getting my certification from him (ijazah) both as a reciter and as a teacher I moved on to study the ten Qiraaat with Sheikh Ahmad Almasri, may Allah bless his soul. Even though I finished reading most of the ten narrations with him, I never got my certification from him since I had to move to Cairo at that time.
In 1991, I join the college of Dar-ul-Oloom at Cairo University to study the Arabic Language and Islamic Sciences. While studying in Cairo University, I was also studying Quranic sciences at Al-Azhar Alshareef . I obtained the high Certificate of Qiraat from Al-Azhar in 1994 and also received a Bachelors of Science in Arabic language and Islamic sciences from Cairo University in 1995.
